White trail, Silas Condict County Park
We went back to this trail today, after about a year, as it was a perfect fall day and we know that this trail has great vistas for viewing autumn coloration. Today did not disappoint: moderate temperature (pretty warm in the sun), blue sky, nobody else in sight. A highlight was seeing three eastern garter snakes over the course of the hike. One was in a little stream that crossed the trail, swimming and ducking under stones. Another felt threatened enough to coil into strike position.
We do have one comment, though, and hope it is constructive. We are experienced hikers and have been going to this trail on and off since it opened ten years ago. The blazes are inconsistent. While at times there are 3 in a straight line pretty close together (20 feet or so?), at other times there are unmarked turns of 90 degrees or so, and the next blaze is occasionally quite a way from the turn so that you have to search for a minute or two to make sure you're going the right way.

Nice hike!
We were pleasantly surprised by this hike. For us, it was a moderately strenuous two hour hike, with great vistas, an interesting rock tunnel and a beautiful lake at the trailhead. I would highly recommend this hike. We found it a bit difficult to locate the trailhead, as described under the Directions to Trailhead. A simpler approach is to look for the other trailhead (since the trail is a loop starting and ending at the lake), which is clearly visible on the left as you enter the parking area. Have fun!

Just yesterday!
My son and I got a good workout yesterday and we had the whole trail to ourselves! I Agree with the other posters—good footgear and plenty of water are a must. Blazes could use a fresh coat of paint. Cave Tunnel was so cool!

Nice hike
<p>Just to give an update on this hike. The trail was nice and well identified. The parking and facilities are convenient too.</p>
<p>At first I thought there were lots of spider webs but it turns out it was rather made by small caterpillars. At some point I even heard something falling like light rain and I realized it was those invasive caterpillars falling down from the tree all over the place in the wood. I was rather unique but a bit gross of course. I guess it`s the time of the year.</p>
<p>Anyway, I recommend this hike.</p>

Great hike !
<p> We did this hike on 11/20/11 & really enjoyed it! Fabulous view of a farm/home with a white fence encircling it</p>
<p>which looked like a postcard . Great job of blazing too. </p>

Region and Maps

However, hikers should be aware that our map was published before the white trail was complete and therefore does not show on the 2011 edition of <a href="http://www.nynjtc.org/product/jersey-highlands-central-north-region-trail-map">Jersey Highlands (Central North Jersey Region)</a> map.</p>
<p>Morris County is the correct region. This is the New Jersey Walk Book Region as listed at http://www.nynjtc.org/panel/trailsoverview. We understand that the use of "Region" on the map might be confusing.</p>

<P>Location of hike is what TC calls central region of north jersey.</P>
<P>There should be info that the location is partially covered by the new map & when updated the info available after printing will be included. I found the TC map usefull for orienting to the sites from the view points, eg, smoke rise water tower, kanouse mtn cliff face, in the future to the crossing of east gate road to the Buck Mtn section of Farny State Park.</P>
