ACTION ALERT!

Please find below the key points that must be communicated to legislators for the protection of 515 acres of forested land on the southern Shawangunk Ridge. Attached you will find a list of legislators that would be appropriate to write to as part of this effort.

Thank you for your help in protecting this important resource! Please call John Myers at the New York / New Jersey Trail Conference, or Philip Nicholas at the Trust for Public Land for further information.

The text of the letters to the legislators and agency representatives should include the following key points:

- Opportunity for the State of New York to acquire 515 acres of pristine, forested ridge top land owned by the Fini Brothers Company along the Shawangunk Ridge and the Shawangunk Ridge Trail in Orange County, in the Towns of Greenville, and Deerpark.

- The Fini Brothers property is significant because.

    • It borders Lake Hathorn - an important open space resource for the Town of Greenville and Orange County.
    • It is one of two parcels of pristine land of its size on the Southern Shawangunk Ridge.
    • It will provide the public with access to a dramatic landscape, which includes forest, wetlands and mountain streams.
    • Forms a crucial part of the Shawangunk Ridge Trail Corridor.
    • Project is a cornerstone for conservation of the Southern Shawangunk Ridge.

- The property is specifically named on New York State's Open Space Plan:

    • SHAWANGUNK MOUNTAINS {34} - Protection of the Southern Shawangunks in Orange County.

- Urge support for the acquisition of the Fini Brothers property and the inclusion of the Shawangunk Mountains as an eligible project under the Environmental Protection Fund for this year.
