Sparta Mountain Day May 18, 2008

The Friends of Sparta Mountain would like to invite you to the 4th Annual Sparta Mountain Day which takes place on May 18, 2008 from 10am-1:30pm in the Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area on Edison Road in Sparta, NJ.

Sparta Mountain Day is a fun celebration of one of the most magnificent and diverse ecosystems in the world. This is a day of hiking, birding and environmental discussions which help build the concept of stewardship.

We have the mountaintop views, the swamps, the bogs, the eagles, the hawks, the frogs, the bears and, best of all, you do not have to fly or drive hundreds of miles to enjoy it all – it is right here in our back yard.

Last year over 400 people enjoyed:

• our Bird Walks led by NJ Audubon experts
• our Mining Walks (mining throughout the area for past 200 years)
• our Geo-caching Walks led by local geo-caching enthusiasts
• our Forest Discussions led by a local environmental engineer
• our Raptor Presentations led by a local avian expert
• our Bear Discussions led by the State of NJ representatives
• our Frog Discussions led by a local award winning science teacher, etc.

Sparta Mountain Day 2008 will also include discussions pertaining to recycling, etc.
