Due to a number of scheduling and political conflicts and after conversations with leaders of several other environmental groups, ALS and NJEF as the co-leaders of next Thursday's Lobby Day have decided to postpone it to either Thursday, June 7 or Thursday June 14 (the 52nd week anniversary of last year's lobby day!).

Please stay tune ... an update will be forthcoming by the end of next week (May 24 pm or May 25 am)

NJ Enviro's 2nd Annual Trenton Lobby Day -- ???5/24/01???

Last year the NJ environmental community's first annual Environmental Lobby Day was a huge success. We visited over 100 legislators, which resulted in 1) passage of the strongest environmental transportation law in years and the Private Well Testing Act, and 2) 76 legislators signing a letter to the Governor demanding specific strengthening changes to the NJDEP's proposed watershed ("sewer") rules.

Let's do it again! This year's theme is water, air, land, and transport. NJ's air and water remain too polluted, while our roads are too congested and our open space is dwindling too fast. We will lobby our elected officials on rules and laws they can adopt this spring around 1) the watershed rules, 2) cleaner cars, 3) transfer of development rights and 4) "fix it (roads/bridges) first" as well as educate them about our longer term vision to stop sprawl.

The day will 1) begin at 9 am with a training/briefing with materials in Committee Room 1, 1st Floor of the Statehouse Annex on West State St. in Trenton, 2) include lobbying throughout the day and an opportunity to meet press and legislative leaders at noon, and 3) conclude with a social event in the late afternoon.

START ORGANIZING YOUR FRIENDS TO Join us May 24 as we continue our lobbying efforts to protect our drinking water and stop sprawl.
