The last printing of the map in 2000 added a few new
trails but did not change known errors on the map as most of them are
very minor. See closed
trails, new trails
and relocations for
more details about some of the changes listed below.
Map 1
The road shown on the map from Manitou station diagonally up
to Rt 9D toward Anthonys Nose is private and does not go all
the way through. Please use Manitou Station Road.
The AT though Graymoor has been wrong but it has been
relocated to be close to what is shown on the map.
The road that goes past the start of the trail up North
Redoubt should have a name. It has had numerous names in the
past but is now marked as Snake Hill Road.
The viewpoint * near the S in Anthonys Nose is not there.
The viewpoint * near the S in State Park on the AT has
closed in but is slated to be improved.
There should be only one viewpoint * near White Rock on
Canada Hill on the AT
The Carriage Connector Trail between the Osborn Loop and the
AT may be closed seasonally during Goshawk nesting season.
The Camp Smith Trail should show a 100 foot wide band of
State Park land for its entire length.
Map 2
The Overlook Trail is shown stopping just shy of the
Fishkill Ridge Trail. It in fact connects to it.
The road listed as Uhl Road at the east end of the Wilkinson
Trail near Rt 9 is now marked as Old Albany Post Road.
The Washburn Trail is shown as not following the woods road
near its beginning. It does follow the woods road up to the
quarry.
There is a new extension of the Undercliff Trail from the
Washburn Trail down to Nelsonville. The dashed red line though
the private property should not be there.
The blue Highland Trail from near the top of Bull Hill is
now green and named the Nelsonville Trail. It continues down
the woods road to Nelsonville. The part that parallels the
Split Rock Trail is now the Lonestar Trail.
The Hospital in Cold Spring is no longer an active Hospital.
The trails in Foundary Cove are not on the map
Map 3
The piece of the 3 Lakes Trail from the end of the Catfish
Loop to the Catfish Loop is closed (bobcat denning area).
The piece of the Old Mine Railroad Trail from the AT to the
dam at Hidden Lake is closed. It is now blazed over the dam to
the 3 Lakes Trail where it ends.
The viewpoint * on the Catfish Loop at the sharp 180 degree
turn at its southern most point is misplaced (down in a
hollow). It should be about 2/3s of the way toward the former
end of the 3 Lakes Trail.
The Candlewood Hill Trail has been relocated at the Bell
Hollow Road end. It now hits Bell Hollow Road near where the
park boundary hits the west side of the road.
The horse trail up the dirt continuation of Bell Hollow Road
was obliterated by Hurricane Floyd and will not be restored.
The blue trail in the Clear Lake Scout Reservation continues
out the dirt road to Sunk Mine Road.
Sunk Mine Road south of the Candlewood Hill Trail is
impassible to all but four wheel drive vehicles.
