Since the
Trail Conference is a volunteer based organization, much of the work
of the conference is done by committees. The committees have a charge
set forth by the Bylaws or directive from board and in the governing
document developed by each committee and approved by the board.
CommitteesAdministrative (Mac Highet) Advises the Chair of the Board and the Board. Oversees the financial operation of the organization including recommendations to board about investments for endowed funds. Communications (Vacant)
Conservation (Seth McKee) Protection of trail lands, and acquisition of trail lands and oversees land protection efforts Darlington Schoolhouse (Chris Tausch) Charged with restoring the schoolhouse so that it embraces its past and it becomes the Trail Conference headquarters. Membership & Development (Mary Smart/John Gunzler) Cultivates and educates present members and donors, seeks new support from corporations, foundations, public sources and an increased donor base of members and friends.Recruits individuals and club members, cultivates volunteers, and reaches out to non-tradition user groups. Nominating (Malcomb Spector) Publications (Daniel Chazin) Publishes, markets and distributes hiking maps and trail/hiking guides.
Marketing (Vacant) Markets the conference as a leader in hiking community and provides timely and relevant information to the public, members, land managers, and elected officials about hiking, publications, and open space preservation. Science (Anne Osborn) Works to balance environmental concerns, scientific information about the ecological health of the region, shifting regulatory requirements, and public access issues and educates the public about these issues. Strategic Planning (Bob Boysen) Technology (Walt Daniels) Evaluates and purchases the hardware and software and provides the technical assistance and training to meet the technology needs of the office and committees.
Manage and maintain 1,600 miles of trails divided into 13 geographic regions, each with their own structure. Trails Council (Jane Daniels) Provides a forum for trail managers to discuss trail issues, make decisions about changes and additions to the trail system, and set standards for and oversee the maintainer training.
